The title of this work, "Gekkou" means lunar rainbow (moonbow) in Japanese language.
When I was small, I loved looking at the moon before I go to sleep.
The moon doesn't generate its own power to shine all by itself. It just reflects the light of the Sun.
When I was working on this piece, I was full of joy because a collector loved my art and bought many works from me, from a little new artist in Japan! At that time, I was not sure if my art would be appreciated by someone in the world, so that made me so happy and more confident just like the moon reflects the light of the Sun.
The facial expression of this girl shows mixed feelings of happiness, anxiety, confidence and strong passion I had at that time. So, this piece is still so special to me.
