1332 Santa Barbara Street

The University Club, built in 1928 in downtown Santa Barabara, was the ideal subject for plein air painting this month. The combination of architectural details, foliage, and morning sunlight attracted me to set up on the front walkway to absorb some Southern California culture and enjoy the process. Since the facade was in shade, my intention was to play the contrast of the warm sunlit flag, bricks and foliage against the cool plaster and shadow on the building.
