Plein Air on the Boardwalk

(watercolour |16 by 20 inches | arches board HP ) My formal art instruction started with weekend workshops taught by Donna-Jo Massie. On occasion we would leave the Canmore classroom and enjoy an afternoon plein air class. There is nothing more stimulating than painting plein air in a group. The colours are true and in a class situation the camaraderie outdoors is special. Some artists look into the distance for the best view while others pick a very close subject. This day I chose to focus on the group as we painted on the Canmore Boardwalk. Donna-Jo stands over the class giving guidance. A few sketches and photographs were made plein air and the painting was done in my studio.
