Sunset Over My Baldy: Looking West From HWY 330
Late August; stuck behind road construction on CA Highway 330 a narrow two lane road from the hot San Bernardino flatlands to my sisters house nestled in the cool pine covered mountains. The normally 30 minutes drive from the freeway exit has turned into a daily two hour ordeal due to road construction turning the highway in to an alternating on way road. Luckily for me most evenings I get stop at the sew soft govan my an view through the peaks to the west and a rarely seen view of Mount Baldy. I remember to pack my Plein Air kit and keep it in the front passenger seat. On this day it was the perfect scenario - in a long ini of cars waiting to go up the mountain I was stopped with this view to my left. I knew I had between 10 to 30 minutes. My pallet and a seal jar of cold wax medium were ready and waiting. I propped the a piece of gessoed watercolour paper on a clip board on the steering wheel and went at it. 15 minutes later the traffic starts moving - toss everything in the open plein air bag o the passengers seat, clipped the painting to the passenger seat balt holding it in place and I continued on my way. I lovey way to end the day despite spending two hours in stop and start traffic all the way home.
