In person, these flowers are quite outrageous. In general, I enjoy painting flowers “in the wild,” and one challenge with this particular variety is that they are a one-day blossom. The flower is either shriveled or fallen off the next day. And so it was a furious session of painting the flowers on day 1, followed by two more days in the garden painting their surroundings. Often in the summer, I gravitate towards shady places to paint. This one was in full sun, but it was worth all the perspiration to be with and chase after these colors.
