Growing up in the Southeast United States, I always dreamed of going out West and seeing the vast open spaces, the high alpine mountains, and the rugged landscape. My dream came true back a few years ago when I moved to Los Angeles. Upon moving to LA I quickly developed several health problems that left me bed-ridden and unable to function normally in every day life. A quick turn of events had left me nearly crushed. Despite my precarious health situation, I resolved to get outdoors and explore the mountains near LA. I also had met and started dating a wonderful girl. She took me hiking at Mount Baldy in the San Bernardino mountains. The hike was my first exposure to the true beauty of the West, but it was more importantly a time of blossoming romance between her and me. I was starting to be filled with hope again as she had exposed me to true beauty. I was like the tree in my painting; I was being watered again with hope and love and beauty; I was coming alive again. This painting is a painting of hope, whimsy, and pure romantic fun.
